After snapping photos of Hillary Frost, she answered a few questions about personal style and what inspires her. Here’s what she had to say:
1. Describe your personal style.
I’d describe my personal style as a mix of classic pieces that never go out of style and trendy prints. Typically, I pair a trendy top with a classic “never-goes-out-of-style” cardi, basic skinny jeans, and fun flats. I like to look funky and in style, but at the same time classy and put together. I like buying clothes that will stay in style for awhile, and I look for things I can layer and wear more than once.
2. Who/what inspires the way you dress?
I’m usually inspired by seeing outfits put together in stores, or by looking at the J.Crew catalog each month. I love to see how layering clothes can make old pieces look new again, and the J.Crew catalog does a great job of this. I also love window shopping on the plaza!
3. Do you have any style icons? If so, who are they and why.
My sister…She always looks so put together and has the right accessories on at the right time. When pushed for time and in need of a cute outfit, I’m usually shopping her closet.
4. Describe your favorite piece of clothing, accessory, bag or shoe that you own and why.
Ooh, I’d have to say currently my purple suede Michael by Michael Kors heels are one of my faves. They make any boring top and jeans combination a little more fun and exciting for a night out on the town. They will probably go out of style in a year, but give it 20 years and I think they’ll be back.
5. Name 3-5 stores you can’t live without and what makes them special.
J.Crew – My classic store. The best spot for classy and affordable pieces. I love their cardigans and dressy tops. And they always have some of the best jewelry and hair accessories that make any outfit go from boring to fabulous.
Nordstrom – My go to store. Nordstrom is my store where I know I can find anything I’m looking for. Whether it is new fall makeup, shoes for the dress I just bought, or a new pair of summer shades, Nordstrom is it. And the customer service is always fabulous.
Anthropologie – My creative store. Anthropologie is where I wish I could buy everything. I love the vintage and sweet style of the clothes and this is where I go if I need a new dress, or a fun gift for friends.
Target – My everything store. Target is where I go when I’m bored, honestly. I love looking at home goods, makeup, shoes, jewelry, even scarves and handbags. Target has it all.
Forever 21 – My trendy store. Forever 21 has the greatest trendy tops and accessories when you’re looking for a quick, fun outfit. I’d prefer H&M as I think their quality and selection is much better, but they’ve yet to make their mark in KC.
6. If you could splurge on one key item this season, what would it be and why?
That’s a tough one, but probably a classic leather good of some kind. Either a great leather bag, sassy leather flats, or a new big leather bag. Can I have it all?
Thanks again to Hillary for letting me photograph her for the first Style File feature!
Have a happy Halloween!

WhatIWore: People who know me in real life know that I love to quote The Secret and truly believe in good things happening to me, and think about life with a lot of joy and positivity. Its the only way! One of my favorite parts of the Secret is “You can have, do or be anything you want”
This is something I put out in the Universe about two weeks before I started What I Wore (on my old blogspot locale). Whoa!! I totally forgot about this post too until Jessi pointed it out to me!! How amazing is that?
On a regular basis I write down things in a journal or in a file on my desktop, starting with “I am so happy and grateful now that…” and just list out the awesome things in my life. Sometimes I even write them down publicly. Once I wrote down I wanted to be in Lucky Magazine (it happened!). Another time I listed a bunch of things I was looking for in a partner (I found him). Only after making these intentions and believing that I deserve them and they can come true do they appear in my life. A lot of people give me gruff (is that a word?) for just believing they will come true. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. You don’t have to know what the path looks like, but if you see the end result, you can achieve it!!
Go be awesome.
This is SUCH great inspiration. I definitely need to excercise these positive thoughts more often.
Fellow ad girl, Hillary Frost, is the star of a centered mode’s first Style File. I chose to profile Hillary for a number of reasons: her style is polished and pulled together, she selects pieces that work for her and there’s always a trend element in every look.
Take Hillary’s first look: The jeans and cardigan are classic pieces that will never go out of style, while the hot pink silk blouse with ruffles and leopard print t-straps make the outfit trendy and relevant.

Blouse, cardigan & jeans - JCrew; shoes - Bob Jones; necklace & bracelet - Tivol (David Yurman).
Her second ensemble is the perfect fall look: feminine plaid shirt, classic skinny jeans and brown riding boots with buckles for added interest.

Plaid shirt - H&M; tank and jeans - Gap; boots - Nordstrom (Frye).
The final look (my personal fave!) is equal parts polished and rock-and-roll. She combines a classic blazer and white shirt with ripped up jeans and studded flats.

Blazer - H&M; white shirt, necklace & jeans - Gap; studded flats - Nordstrom (Sam Edelman)
Like her look? Check back tomorrow for part two of the post - Hillary will answer questions on her look and where she finds inspiration!
It seems as though I have NO fall/winter clothes to wear an I hate that. After doing a little online shopping, I found lots of goodies that I’m coveting:
1. The Arctic Charm Dress from ModCloth
This dress would be perfect to wear on a cold winter day. The polar bear details are so cute and far more interesting than a typical fair isle sweater. I would pair it with a fun pair of tights and black boots. If it was really cold, which it often is in Kansas City, I might even add a long sleeved shirt under it for added warmth.

2. The Gift Giving Dress from ModCloth

I’ve been looking for something cute to wear to a November wedding in Sand Diego and this definitely fits the bill. The neckline is so flattering and I love the funky shoulder details.

3. S&N Knot Front Jumper and Studded V-neck Jumper from Urban Outfitters
I’m constantly complaining that I have nothing to wear when I go out on the weekends…and then I found these lovely jumpers and all my problems are solved. Both are super cute and would look great with a colored or textured pair of tights, black booties and some bling up top.
4. J Crew toothpick ankle cords in dark charcoal

These cords are adorable! They are a great alternative to jeans and can be dressed up or down by pairing them with flats or cute booties (as seen above). I would get a huge return on my cost per wear for these bad boys…. especially since J Crew is offering $10 off all corduroy pants.
Ohhhh how I love online shopping… so easy to find great stuff!!!
